March 20, 2004

Hi again! I decided to take a little break from my jetway projects and finish up a project which I have been working on for quite a while now. This one is kind of special, because it's my local airport! I only redesigned the main terminal. All of the other scenery is the FS9 default. Let me just give you a little information on the airport before we proceed with the installation.

QUAD CITY INTL. AIRPORT
-----------------------
The Quad City Intl. Airport is located in Moline, IL. It serves the Quad City area of Davenport and Bettendorf Iowa, Moline and Rock Island Illinois, plus other surrounding communities. The total population of the four major cities plus the other surrounding communities numbers in the area of 360,000. Over 400,000 passengers boarded flights at the the airport in the year 2003. Six airlines fly out of the airport, with non-stop service to 8, soon to be 9, different major
U.S. hubs.

THE AIRLINES
------------
The airlines and the hubs they serve are:

AirTran Airways: Atlanta, GA and Orlando, FL (Saturdays only to Orlando)

American Eagle: Chicago O'Hare

ATA Connection: Chicago Midway

Delta Connection: Cincinnati, OH

Northwest Airlink: Detroit MI, Minneapolis MN, and, starting in May 2004, service is being restored to Memphis, TN.

United Express: Chicago O'Hare and Denver, CO

OTHER NOTES BEFORE WE PROCEED
-----------------------------
The default FS9 terminal for the airport was nowhere near an accurate representation of the real one. So, yet once again, I excluded the default terminal. This time, though, the terminal building where the aircraft park was custom made by myself in FSDS and features custom textures. And, as in my previous project at KLIT, The nice FS9 rotating beacon needed to be excluded and replaced. Also, as in previous projects, the ramp space has been enlarged.

HOW DO I INSTALL THESE FILES?
-----------------------------------
We're not going to install these files the way we have in my previous projects. Due to the number of custom texture files and the number of exclude files I used, we're going to keep the installation as simple as possible. So what we're going to do is just extract this entire archive to the FS9\Addon Scenery folder, ensuring that "Use Folder Names" is checked in WinZip. Upon extraction you should find the following new folder structure in your FS9\Addon Scenery folder:

Quad City\
Scenery\
Texture\

In addition, you should also find the following files:

KMLI Flight Plans.txt
QC Flying Tour.txt
README FIRST. txt (this document)

Next, go to your FS9\Addon Scenery\Quad City\Scenery folder and move the following file to the main FS9\Addon Scenery\Scenery folder:

AF2_KMLI.bgl (This file must be installed in order for the aircraft to be properly lined up at their respective gates).

Finally, to complete the installation, you will need to access your FS9 Scenery Library and install the "Quad City" area from there.

WHAT DO I DO WITH THIS KLMI FLIGHT PLANS.TXT FILE I FOUND IN MY TEMPORARY FOLDER?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Open it up and you will find all of the information you need there.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT'S IN THIS QC FLYING TOUR FILE?
------------------------------------
Open it up and find out!!!!!
